Company History
The origins of NationalEMR™ began many years ago when a small but dedicated group of engineers began development of an electronic medical record framework. It was not to be a computer program, or a system, but rather a process. A process whereby the rapidly changing needs of the medical industry could be met regardless of commercial perceptions. Form meeting functionality.
This product eventually became known as VistA. It is now one of the most widely used total electronic medical record solutions in the world. It was a product developed without any commercial plans at all. Today this product is used within the entire 170+ Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals and their 400+ clinics.
VistA is currently available in an almost complete form via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). If someone wanted VistA FOIA, it is freely available. However it currently runs on a platform that requires a licence, and for large installations, which VistA was made for, the licence can get expensive. In addition the software is not configured properly and would require a great deal of work to make the system functional.
Sequence Managers was started several years ago by Summer Chase, and Tom Clark with the goal of forming a company to provide a single solution for document storage, scanning, and an Electronic Medical Record system. Summer Chase approached Brian Lord who was part of the Mettle team, a first class development and engineering group for VistA, as a vendor that could provide the EMR Sequence Managers needed. It seemed a match that had vast possibilities. In October of 2004 Brian Lord was brought into the company as the Chief Information Officer. The successful completion of the Harlan clinic implementation would seemed to indicate that Sequence Managers was bound for greatness.
In 2004 in conjuction with Sequence Managers the Mettle team installed MettleVistA in an existing clinic in Denver. In addition to many new modifications to deal with the clinic environment, several interfaces were requried, and the first version of National EMR was created.
However In December of 2004 tragedy struck. A driving force in Summer Chase’s life, Tom Clark, was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. When it became apparent that Tom was going to valiantly fight for his life and his treatment was going to require Summer to spend all of her time caring for him in January 2005 she made the decision to sell Sequence Managers. At this point Tom Clark’s son Ryan stepped up and offered a great deal of assistance and direction in helping Sequence Managers make this transition.
After talking to a number of potential new owners in February of 2005, The CIO, Brian Lord purchased the EMR side of the business and formed a new company, Sequence Managers Software, LLC.
Since that time with the help of WorldVistA and other individuals and groups, Sequence Managers Software now offeres NationalEMR™ entirely through the web.
Sequence Managers Software is now dedicated to providing a revolutionary EMR, that has the power of the most expensive and advanced large scale medical systems, at a price that the smallest of clinical practices can afford.
